Example of maintenance painting with Isotrol Oil Alkyd system of pylons in Ljusdal, Sweden

System: Product: Thickness:
Underlying/old coats: Oil/oil alkyd 50 µm
Primer: Isotrol Primer 20 µm
Intermediary: Isoguard Pansar 50 µm
Top coat: Isoguard Aluminium 40 µm
Pylons are object where Isoguard Aluminium is ideal as top coat. Aestetically the aluminum color blends well with un-treated steel surfaces or close by structures. And the reflective properties from the aluminum pigments give extra protection from degradation of the oil binder by UV-rays.

In the example a pre-treatment of carbon ice blasting has been used. It is a very gentle method of cleaning and keep underlying paint coats intact as far as possible. In this treatment an underlying coat with good adheasion and a thickness of 50 µm was measured and incorporated into the calculations for the total coat thickness needed after re-painting.

Surfaces were primed with Isotrol Primer after which an intermediary coat of Isoguard Pansar was applied. For a finishing top coat Isoguard Aluminum was used.

The Isotrol Oil Alkyd system can be used with a top coat of Isoguard Pansar, Isotrol Finish or Isoguard Aluminium. The choice depends on aeastetical considerations, color selection and surrounding environmental factors.
